Bird Slaughter in Delaware
February 10th, 200412,000 chickens in Delaware were killed when several chickens from one farm tested positive for the H7 family of avian flu viruses. This is a distinct strain of bird flu that is usually — but not always — innocuous in humans. However, Japan and several other Asian countries have banned the import of American chickens as a result.
Funny — I didn’t realize that Asian countries imported much American chicken until I read this article. I would have thought they had plenty of their own chickens. I can’t find any reports about annual chicken importation rates for Asia right now — please e-mail me if you have any more information about this. I’m curious.
