What I Want

I’ve been rumaging around, looking for a book to read, and I’ve been thinking about authors I who’s work I have really enjoyed and would like to see more of, but who haven’t written anything new in a while.

I’d like to see a new book by Sage Walker. Her first novel, Whiteout, was quite good; it won a Locus award for best first novel in 1996. It appears that she stopped publishing after that — no new short stories or books have appeared since then.

I’d also like to see a new science fiction book by Sarah Zettel. The Quiet Invasion was amazing. Her most recent science fiction book, Kingdom of Cages was published in 2002. Since then she’s published a large handful of fantasy books — but I want more sci fi from her!

And then there’s Kage Baker. I’d like to read the final volume in the Company series, but I can’t say I’m looking forward to it — that series started strong, but quickly went off the rails. What I’d really look forward to from Ms. Baker is another book set in the same universe as Anvil of the World, a fantastically funny, scary and tense book with well-developed characters that tells an engaging story.

And finally, I’d really enjoy something new by Kay Kenyon. All of her books are fun, but the first two — The Seeds of Time and Leap Point — are outstanding. Her last book, The Braided World, was published in 2003, so I’m probably just being impatient here.

Perhaps I’ll just reread one of the above rather than finding something new.
