When we americans think of people having trouble getting clean water to drink, we tend to think of people in other countries. People not like us. However, obtaining potable water and dealing with sewage is increasingly an issue in the US, as population expands, funding for infrastructure continues to dwindle, and the existing infrastructure gives out. This story from the Texas Observer examines several small suburbs that don’t have safe water. The story is deeply troubling — people are literally drinking their own sewage — but the it’s the pictures accompanying the story that really got to me. Children, old people, workers, immigrants, citizens — they all deserve clean water to drink, don’t you think?
