Isn’t there a war on?

Doesn’t Bush have some small Middle Eastern dictatorship to overthrow? Why can’t he leave Oregon alone?

The Bush Administration has asked a federal appeals court to strike down Oregon’s assisted suicide law.

In papers filed with the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, the Justice Department argued that the Controlled Substance Act — the federal law declaring what drugs doctors may prescribe — prohibits doctors from prescribing controlled substances except for “legitimate medical purposes.”

And “the attorney general has permissibly concluded that suicide is not a legitimate medical purpose,” the Justice Department said. [from The Newark Star-Ledger]

I would not be surprised if this turns out to be some idiotic attempt to protect federal drug laws against anything that might weaken them. Am I too cynical?
